When travel agent Chris Pook organized the first Long Beach Grand Prix in 1975, few experts thought he would succeed. Some 30 years later, Pook's dream has become an annual event that transforms the streets of Long Beach into speed-freak haven. Photo shows Josele Garza making his way around Turn Nine as some of the 83,000 fans watch. Photograph dated April 5, 1987.
