Description
Five Contra soldiers stand or sit as they rest amongst debris at El Porvenir Farm, located two kilometers from the Honduras-Nicaragua border. The first Contra from the right is sitting and wearing a blue-and-white patch that reads "FDN," identifying him as a member of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force. He is holding an FN FAL assault rifle of Belgian origin on his lap. The second Contra from the right is leaning on a metal rod with his right foot up, and the third Contra from the right is sitting with his left hand on his face. The Contra in the middle stands idly looking at the ground as he holds his FN FAL assault rifle. The first Contra from the left is sitting on a log holding his weapon. The second Contra from the left is sitting on a log speaking to a radio. In the background of the image there is a large pile of still-smoking debris and two deteriorated structures. They are all members of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN in Spanish), whose members are known informally as "Contras."
