Description
The Theatre DeLuxe, which eventually became the first stage theatre in San Jose to show "talking pictures," opened in 1912 at 236 South First Street. This photo, taken in 1916, shows a crowd gathered around actress Edith Storey (draped in fur and flowers), who appeared in person for the San Jose premiere of "The Tarantula." The theatre was closed in 1952.
