Photograph caption dated April 20, 1933 reads, "Norman M. Lyon of Los Angeles, vice chairman of the National Aeronautics Commission of the American Legion, is pictured receiving a commission as lieutenant in the United States Naval reserve, presented by Lieutenant Commander Charles E. Rosendahl, former commander of the dirigible Los Angeles and at one time commander of the dirigible Akron. Left to right, Commander H.A. Jones, inspector-instructor of the Eleventh naval district; Commander Rosendahl and Lieutenant Lyon, who was a war time naval aviator in the lighter-than-air branch."
