Photograph of a Havasupai Indian woman weaving a basket in front of her "Hawa" or dwelling, 1898. She sits on the ground, with the large shallow basket on her lap. She wears a print cloth shawl. Hanging on a post of the hawa are a leather satchel and a cylindrical leather case. A hat sits on top of the hawa. Beside her, on the ground, sit an olla, another small basket, a pottery bowl, a kathak (large conical basket), a large rectangular case, and sundry items of clothing. At her back a small cat sits. Behind her a canyon wall looms.
