Image of American actor Robert Downing, in costume, performing as a Roman gladiator and standing with a sword and shield standing over a fallen opponent; the poster presumably advertises the tragedy "The Gladiator."
Probable date based on printer history; the Chicago Bank Note Company operated from around 1888 to 1893. "The / Chicago / Bank Note / Company / 151"--text, lower right of image.
