Helen Gahagan was a successful Broadway performer who, in 1931, married actor Melvyn Douglas. Elected in 1944, Gahagan Douglas was the third woman elected to Congress from California. She served California's 14th congressional district as a liberal Democrat from 1945-1951.; John Walter Baumgartner (November 11, 1903-November 15, 1982) served as Los Angeles City Councilman for district 12 from 1933-1944.
