Description
Shown in 1955 at 2626 Capitol Avenue is the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The photograph was taken shortly after the church's construction in October. In May, a cornerstone was placed, containg symbols of various California Episcopal convocations: a piece of gold from the Mother Lode, a bottle of wine from Sonoma, a small bag of rice from Shasta, and a redwood burl from Sempervirens (Eureka). The community itself was founded in 1898 at Twenty-Third and K Streets, moving to its pictured location several years later. During the Second World War, the church served as a Christian Service Center for area servicemen.
