Description
San Francisco Ballet, the oldest professional ballet company in the United States, was the first company to stage a complete version of The Nutcrackerin 1944, choreographed by Willam Christensen. The excerpts in this footage are from the third version staged by the company, choreographed by Willam's brother, Lew Christensen, in 1967 (the second version ran from 1954-1966). It was during this time the Nutcracker became an annual San Francisco Ballet tradition. The footage includes excerpts from the scene featuring the Queen and King of the Snow and Snowflakes; scenes from the Waltz of the Flowers; an excerpt of the scene of Mirlitons, Dresden Dolls; an excerpt from the scene Mother Goose and her Nursery. The music is Waltz of the Flowers, from the second act of The Nutcracker, composed by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky.
