Description
Construction of a overhead arcade structure above the tracks of San Francisco & San Jose Railroads. This structure was built west of San Pedro Street and adjacent to the railroad's freight house. Passengers complained about the muddy mess of boarding trains in the wintertime. This is the only known image of this structure which was short-lived and does not appear in 1870 maps. In 1884, the Southern Pacific Railroad build a larger depot and arcade train shed at Market and Bassett Streets (located east of San Pedro Street directly behind the photographer of this image).
