As one goes up the trail to Illilouette Creek, Half Dome gradually loses its sheer appearance and finally looks like a completely rounded peak. The timber on the foreground ridge above Illilouette Falls is mostly Jeffrey and Sugar Pine of which there are some very fine specimens. Insects are doing some damage to the old Jeffrey Pines.
