Description
Photograph caption dated August 7, 1966 reads, “Kajima Building will rise 15 stories in the heart of ‘Little Tokyo.’” An additional snipe reads, “The first building in the United States to be constructed by Kajima International, Inc., is the Sumitomo Bank building, modeled above. The 15-story office building, located at the southwest corner of First and San Pedro Streets in Little Tokyo is being financed by First Western Bank. Architects are Victor Gruen Associates. The groundbreaking, which featured ceremonial rituals performed by a Shinto priest took place this morning.”
