Description
Photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on July 1, 1972 states: "Dredges are hard at work in the San Joaquin River near Isleton in an attempt to rebuild the flooded area near the 500-foot levee break, to the left of the picture. Terrence S. Meade, assistant regional director for disaster programs for the federal Office of Emergency Preparedness said it will take at least 30 days to fill the hole in the original levee break. In the meantime, residents and volunteers built a temporary levee around the town's residential section and pumped out much of the area."
