Photograph of an exterior view of the County Jail in Knight's Ferry, Stanilaus County, ca.1940 (ca.1930?). The jail's two tall iron doors are bolted into thick iron walls of the jail that stands center on a light, dusty ground with little plant life Each door has a large lock as well as one small, square window towards the top. A circular light hangs from the raised ceiling through a wide opening in the center of the jail, while wood paneling can be seen on either side. Photo file card reads "County jail built while this town was the county seat between 1862 and 1872. Made of one quarter inch boiler plate iron. Four cells with two bunks each and partitions of iron. For ventilation -- ceiling of one inch scrap iron grating, covered with a raised tin roof".
