Original program notes: Imperial San Francisco | Gray Brechin | Weds June 6 1990 Gray Brechin will discuss the Bay Area, both as an Arcadian Idyll and as the Imperial City of the West Coast which has been instrumental in the conquest of the Pacific Rim. He will focus on the inherent attitudes reflected in our turn-of-the-century architecture and thought. Gray is a writer, geographer and historian. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he is working on a book entitled Imperial San Francisco [ published 1999 ]. Formerly the urban design critic at KRON-TV where he wrote and produced shows on the urban environment, he now is a columnist for San Francisco Focus and San Francisco Magazine, and a lecturer at San Francisco State University, and the California College of Arts and Crafts.
