“Mr Dedan Kariuki [Wangai], senior clerk and clerk of works, with Mrs Dedan and Miss Mowat & her car.” Group portrait of the Chogoria leaders of the Revival movement standing next to a car. Dedan Wangai worked at Chogoria from 1933 to 1953, when he joined the Government Public Works Department in Nyeri his wife Rachel was the daughter of the Rev. Solomon Ndambi, a previous parish minister at Chogoria. Miss Mary A Mowat was in charge of the girls' boarding school and became Supervisor of Schools for a short period. All three organised many of the Revival meetings in and around Chogoria as well as travelling to events further afield. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1947-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
