Kearny Street is visible in the lower left, with the clock tower of St. Mary's Cathedral visible above the other buildings on the right side of California Street approximately three-quarters of the way up the hill. High rise buildings advertise by sign along their sides. Streetcars navigate the hill. Legible signs include: "The German Savings & Loan Society", "[...] Gallery", and "California House".
