Description
Photograph also used in a separate undated article.
Photograph article dated October 17, 1950 partially reads, "The bleak Farallones Inlands, windswept guardians of the Golden Gate will be Freedom's signpost to Mrs. Martha Riege sometime tomorrow. Mrs. Riege, who one month ago was just another stateless person wandering through a labrynth [sic] of doubt and despair in unhappy Shanghai, arrives in San Francisco aboard the vessel, Olga Maersk, to begin a new and vastly different phase of her life... Mrs. Riege, a native of Czechoslovakia, who had lived in Shanghai for many years, faced the possibility of being departed to some other country where her chances of ever getting to the United States would have been slim." Photograph caption reads, "Victory, at last - Miss Ruth Riege examines a letter from her file of correspondence required in contracting people and groups in behalf of her mother, who arrives in San Francisco tomorrow."
