Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. When Loma Prieta earthquake happened, Evans was at home in Walnut Creek, and after the earthquake, he spent several hours trying to call the District 4 offices with no success, and then decided to go to the Walnut Creek Maintenance Yard to communicate with people. The next day, he went to the Oak Street office where the District Director Burch Bachtold was. In the next several weeks, he worked at the Oak Street office command center and he describes what he did and what suggestions he had for future events.
