Wednesday September 16, 1885, was the day of the great celebration of the completion and opening of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad between Los Angeles and Pasadena. Officials were expecting not only the hometown folks, but a large crowd from Los Angeles as well to attend the opening day. View shows the large pavilion erected on the central school park. The pavilion was built of rough lumber open on all sides and covered with freshly cut cypress boughs. Groups of people are shown gathered under the pavilion awaiting the arrival of the passenger train in Pasadena.
