Script reads, "This weekend the world's finest sports car drivers converge on the Monterey Peninsula, for the 4th annual 20,000 dollar United States Road Racing Championships...Laguna Seca...rated by many as the world's finest driver course...will be the scene of northern California's only full internationally sanctioned professional sports car race this weekend...the big charity event, Friday through Sunday, is sponsored by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula...some of the early entries include George Follmer, who won the 1965 U.S. Road Racing Championship Drivers Title, Charles Parsons from Carmel, Charlie Hays, and John Cannon...In addition to the main event, the Sedan Racing Association of San Francisco has arranged a 45 minute race for 3 classes of sedans, with more than 40 entries expected to compete...the track will be open to practice on Friday, with a big racing schedule set for Saturday and Sunday...we'll have a complete report on all the pre-race activity this Thursday night, at 7:20, on the sports show." Segment 2 (silent): Speaker making remarks in front of a banquet group, while people at long tables eat their bowls of food. Story reads, "The 2nd annual Spartan Foundation Membership Drive kickoff dinner was held tonight at the International Smorgasbord. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Robert Clark, the president of San Jose State...The Spartan Foundation, which was started in 1958, has contributed heavily to the athletic program at San Jose State...their annual month-long fund drive will get underway on May 15th." Segment 3 (silent): Exterior of the Los Gatos Lodge, group of men arriving and standing outside, one of them smoking a pipe. Story reads, "Negotiations resumed today between United Technology Center and the International Union of Electrical Workers, who have worked the last week under a 'truce agreement.' A dozen negotiators walked into the meeting this morning at the Los Gatos Lodge on Saratoga Avenue in Los Gatos. The meeting was aimed at settling differences affecting UTC facilities at Coyote, Sunnyvale, Redwood City and Cape Kennedy." Segment 4 (sound): Unidentified man speaking to camera regarding student draft deferments and open door policies at junior colleges. Script does not appear to reference this clip. Segment 5 (silent): Group of sailors being inspected by naval officers, followed by clip of plaque being accepted by naval officer. Script does not appear to reference this clip. Reel 2: Segment 1 (sound): San Jose Municipal Airport manager Jim Nissen speaking to camera about Pacific Southwest Airlines and Public Utilities Commission. Script reads, "The Public Utilities Commission has granted the controversial application by Pacific Southwest Airlines to service the San Jose Municipal Airport. The Commission met in San Francisco this morning to consider the matter, which has been before the Commission since last October. PSA may begin service to this area on the 13th or 14th of this month. We asked local airport manager Jim Nissen if Pacific Airlines, which contested the added service to San Jose, has the right to appeal the decision." Segment 2 (silent): Ceremony involving academics in gowns, golf cart transporting academic faculty in gowns, University of California podium. Script reads, "Dr. Dean McHenry was inaugurated today as the first Chancellor of the University of California's Santa Cruz campus. He had been named to the post in 1961 and before today's ceremony quipped: I finally decided I ought to give in and take the job after five years at it. The university is being built on a 2000 acre campus. It opened last fall and now has about 650 students. It will have a cluster of relatively small colleges with close relations between students and teachers. The inauguration took place within white walls of a limestone quarry which serves as the campus amphitheater. The main address was given by Lord Keith Anderson Hope Murray, a ?British educator. He said: As a visitor from overseas I cannot but envy the foundation on which this branch of the university is being built." Segment 3 (silent): Ceremony with orchestra and speaker outdoors, unveiling of plaque for the H. R. Buchser College Union building. Story reads, "H. R. Buchser, President and Superintendent of San Jose City College since 1954, was today honored by the school's Board of Trustees and student body with the dedication of the H. R. Buchser College Union. About a thousand persons, including students, faculty, and guests, attended today's dedication held in front of the campus' newest building. The City College concert band opened the ceremonies with music to fit the occasion. Jim Steele, President of the City College student body, officially welcomed those in attendance and introduced the featured speaker for the event, Henry T. Gunderson, President of the Board of Trustees. The dedication culminated in the unveiling of the memorial plaque by Steele, and a hearty handshake between the student body leader and Buchser." Reel 3 (silent + sound): Combination of silent footage of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors meeting, with several close-ups of planning charts, and two sound clips. Attorney Al Ruffo argues that a hearing is the best way to present the facts for and against, and how can people make a decision if they don't know the facts - does Al Alquist know the facts? Conservation spokesperson claims that the County is giving away too much to industry in the name of development. Story reads, "The County Board of Supervisors has returned FMC's proposed South County test site to the County Planning Commission. The Board, after a day-long hearing, said they had been presented with a totally new concept for the explosive and vehicle test area in the rolling foothills on the Sheldon Ranch property outside Morgan Hill. The marathon hearing heard FMC officials present a plan somewhat changed from that presented before the Planning Commission at an earlier hearing. FMC's Guy Throner indicated the company would build new buildings on their Coleman Avenue lands where a vehicle test track currently exists. The test track would be moved to the proposed South County site. San Jose attorney Al Ruffo spoke in favor of the FMC zoning plan, and was critical of assemblyman Al Alquist, who yesterday urged the supervisors to uphold the Planning Commission zoning denial...much of this afternoon's session was devoted to opponents of the zoning. Conservationists have opposed the project...including conservation spokesman Tom Jorden."
