Photograph caption dated July 23, 1948 reads, "Griffith Park Zoo's new baby elephant seems to be expressing her approval as she views the plaque bearing her new name, 'Bojo,' which is held by Andy Chapkiss, 8 years, of 3820 Los Feliz Boulevard. Andy was the grand winner in the City Recreation and Park Department-sponsored elephant-naming contest which was taken part in by more than 7,000 children. In the center is Chief Animal Keeper Charles Allen. 'Bojo' was christened in ceremonies held Tuesday (July 20) at Griffith Park Zoo."
