Photo taken from the roof garden at the New Otani Hotel that is called the "Garden in the sky". Landscaped with the influence of the seven principles of Zen: Asymmetry, simplicity, naturalness, calmness, austerity, subtlety and spirituality; the "Garden in the Sky" is a miniature half-acre version of its historic 400 year-old ten-acre garden in the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo, but this one is framed with the dynamic new skyline of downtown Los Angeles. A parking lot, as well as several Downtown buildings, can be seen through the branches of a tree. The New Otani Hotel and Garden is located at 120 S. Los Angeles Street in Little Tokyo. Photograph dated February 2000.
