Photographic portrait of a Navajo Indian captain (or chieftain?), son-in-law of the great Chief Manuelito, wearing a very expensive necklace, Painted Desert, Arizona, ca.1901. He is visible from the waist up. He is wearing a twisted cloth band around his head and a striped blanket draped across his left shoulder. The individual adobe bricks of a building are distinguishable in the wall behind him. He is looking straight ahead.
