Description
Two of Capt. John H. Roberts' Sacramento River Navigation Co. boats loading wheat on the Sacramento River, The "Danbigh Castle" nearest, and the "Varuna." In the battle between riverboats and railroads for the grain transport business in the Sacramento Valley, Capt. Roberts financed the construction of R.R. Doan's 3-wheel-all-wheel drive steam tractors called "Steam Wagons" in the 1875 to 1900 era when they operated.
