In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 313 top, center and bottom.
These photographs are contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Three views of the Preparedness Day Parade on Market Street, July 22, 1916. It was during this parade that a bomb exploded near the corner of Steuart and Market and killed several people. Labor organizers Tom Mooney and Warren K. Billings were tried and convicted of this crime.
The photos at page 313 top and center were taken from a similar vantage point, the second story of a building on the south side of Market between 3rd and 4th. Both views look northeast, and show various regiments marching west on Market. A Preparedness Day banner is hung above the street. The Mutual Savings, Chronicle, Crocker, Hobart, and Ferry Buildings are visible. In the top photo the clock in front of Sorenson Diamonds reads 2:10, about two minutes after the bomb exploded. It shows a marching band followed by a large group of men in suits in the parade. In the center photo the time has progressed to 2:40. It shows a group of women in the parade following a marching band. In the photo at the bottom of page 313, mounted police are passing Marshall Square. Flags and a banner are strung across the street. A huge chute is visible to the right. The old Hall of Records can be seen in the left distance.
