A group of teens wearing red t-shirts and black pants with red stripes around the legs, stand idle on a section of Hollywood Boulevard possibly waiting their turn in line to perform their parade routine - a Chinese Dragon dance. The group of nine on the right of the photo is crouching next to what appears to be a Dragon's head and white "train" or body. The smaller group on the left is possibly accompanying the movements of the Chinese Dragon dancers with cymbals and drums. This group was only one of many that participated in the Lunar New Year Parade along Hollywood Boulevard on this date. Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, starts at the beginning of spring. It occurs somewhere between January 30 and February 20, and it is China's biggest holiday. It is celebrated with firecrackers, dragon dances and lion dances. 2002 was the Year of the Horse. Photo dated: February 17, 2002.
