This postcard depicts a painted scene of several people standing outdoors in front of a thatch-roofed house. Heavy growths of clove trees frame the clearing. The back of the postcard has no handwriting on it. Printed in the margin of the correspondence section is "Universities' Mission to Central Africa, 9 Dartmouth Street, Westminster." "Clove Trees, Pemba, Pemba is the largest clove market of the world. Until quite recently the whole work of gathering and preparing the cloves was done by slave labour. The Universities' Mission has largely helped to abolish slavery in the island. There are 400 adherents."
