Photograph of the rudder of dirigible piloted by Dr. Ford A. Carpenter during bombing of ex-German warships in 1921 off the Virgin Capes, April 1926. A photograph of a blimp-like aircraft reading, "C-2 U.S. Army" can be seen affixed to a mattress-shaped object placed upright on the floor of a room at center. A door can be seen behind the object at left, while various objects are placed on shelves at right. A sign affixed to the wall at right reads, "The Department of Meteorology and A[...] with all research branches of the United States [...] and state, county, and municipal authorities [...] prepares special illustrated reports for [...] Acts in conferences with federal, state, and [...] meteorological and aeronautical matters [...] Originates charts for hydro-electric [...] Makes studies as to aeronautic accide[...] Maps air routes. Routes aviators of army and navy. Air charts the various levels. Consults as to flying fields. Exhibits for aerial shows and displays [...] Lectures on climatic conditions. Calibrates orchard thermometers for saving thousands of dollars. To Make the Soil Productive [...]".
