Description
"Shed for Morrison memorial celebration" Canton [now Guangzhou] China. September, 1907. Due to the lack of a large enough church, a bamboo mat-shed was erected on the river front for the celebrations of the centenary of Robert Morrison's arrival in China. Audiences of 4,000 Chinese Christians or Christian sympathisers met over three days between 5 and 7 September, 1907. Speakers included Rev T W Pearce, Mr Yeung-teung Po, Rev R E Chambers of the American Baptist Mission and a male only meeting to discuss the evils of opium.
