Photograph was edited for publication purposes The location for the Optimist Home for Boys was once the Strickland Home for Boys, an orphanage in Highland Park. Photograph caption dated November 20, 1953 reads, "Phil D. McHugh, emcee, stands at microphone during cermonies at new Optimist Home for Boys, attended by scores of Optimist Club members and civic officials, including Mayor Poulson and Judge William B. McKesson of the Juvenile Court. Founded in 1906, the Optimist Home's first boy was sent by then Superior Judge Curtis D. Wilbur, who later became Secretary of the Interior."
