Description
Photograph of Senator John P. Jones residence in Santa Monica showing front lawn, ca.1898-1920. The stately three-story wooden structure has a long covered porch running across the front of the house. There are two round towers which flank the main entry rising to points which tie into the peaked roof. Circular windows run around the front of each tower. A dirt path curves up to the wide front stairs around a grassy lawn planted with two palms in this perspective. Jones was one of the important developers of Santa Monica. He had made his fortune in the Comstock Lode and later became a senator from Nevada. This house was later converted to the Miramar Hotel.
