PHOTO: SANTA CRUZ COUNTY: BIG TREES GROVE
Shows line of frame buildings amid grove of trees.
Two separate resorts and railroad station developed in 1800's and named Big Trees. First, Welchs Big Trees, started by Joseph Warren Welch, became Santa Cruz County Big Trees Park. Second owned by Cowell family and became Cowells Big Trees, later Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Railroad station established by South Pacific Coast Railroad.
