V1p139a In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 139 top. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text printed on photo: "#125. Cost $95,000. Starr King Church Geary St. 1865. Cornerstone laid Dec. 3, 1862. Dedicated Jan. 1865. Thomas Starr King died Mar. 4, 1864." Text written under photo: "Starr King Church 1880. Geary St. South Side West of Stockton Street- where the store of Nathan Dohrman is now situated. This church is now located at the S.W. corner of Geary & Franklin Street [that building is now the First Unitarian Church] 1906. The grave on right is that of Starr King, Pastor of the church." Church was actually east of Stockton Street, as seen in numerous panoramas taken at the time. Elaborate church building with gothic ornamentation, many spires and large, round rosette window. Gardens on front and sides.
