On June 7, 1963, a fundraiser for John F. Kennedy got double booked in the same ballroom at the John Burroughs High School Prom. He came in and spoke with the students. He was assassinated five months later. Burbank's 1964 Rose Parade Float entry was dedicated to him and titled "The President Goes to Prom." The empty chair was an honor to him.
