Jules Witcover discusses his book, “The Making of an Ink-Stained Wretch: Half a Century Pounding the Political Beat.” He begins by saying that he was a columnist for the “Baltimore Sun” and that he is syndicated by the “Chicago Tribune.” Witcover shares that he was interested in becoming a sports writer and that he transitioned into political writing. He talks about meeting Ted and Robert Kennedy and says that the latter’s attitude changed after he became a senator. Witcover recalls a luncheon at Katharine Graham’s house with Jimmy Carter, and says that he interviewed George H.W. Bush a couple of times while he was vice president of the United States. He states that he has been interested in the war George W. Bush started and shares that Gary Trudeau created a cartoon of him writing a letter to Hunter Thompson. Witcover goes on to discuss the relationship between Bill Clinton and Al Gore, John Kerry’s campaign, and the United Nations. There is no audio for the first six seconds of the video.
