Bathers wade into the surf at McFadden's Landing in Newport Beach. A pier and port terminus is at left. Originally a lumber terminal, Newport Beach was laid out in 1892 and developed around yachting, sport and commercial fishing, and beach activities and as a residential community for commuters to Los Angeles and Long Beach.
