During her two-year term, Lindsay was the first woman to hold the position of acting council president, and the first woman mayor in any major American city when she served as acting mayor of Los Angeles for 36 hours during Mayor Charles E. Sebastian's absence.; Charles Edward Sebastian was served as mayor from 1915 -1916. He was the first Los Angeles Police Chief to be elected mayor.\ Notation written on the verso dated June 2, 1915 reads, ""Estelle Lawton Lindsay.""
