Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Gayleyville was a married student housing complex located on Gayley Avenue in Westwood. The one-bedroom apartments provided cheap accommodation for married students with young families from 1948 to 1968. The housing was meant for World War II veterans who wanted to enroll in the college. Photograph caption dated October 28, 1947 reads "'Skeeter' Hayes, center, chairman of the U.C.L.A.
