Landscape view from the banks of the Shire River showing the heads of hippopotami floating in the middle of the river. The river was used as a trade route for the African Lakes Corporation (ALC), which was formed in Glasgow in1877 by John and Fredrick Moir. The company had strong links with the Scottish missions in Blantyre and Livingstonia. ❧ Album containing photographs recording a voyage up the Shire River and scenes from the Livingstonia mission.
