Description
This 1905 postcard shows the California State Bank, set at the northwest corner of Fourth and J Streets. Built in 1890, the "business temple" - as the "Sacramento Daily Union" called it - was known for its adornment in Ione redstone, furnished by the Ione Stone Company. The 115,000 dollar structure was paid for with private money, but the Internal Revenue Service occupied the basement, the California National Bank used the main floor, while the Sutter Club held the top three floors.
