Photograph of people in Pasadena celebrating the arrival of Santa Fe's first train on the San Gabriel Rail Road, Los Angeles, September 21, 1885. Celebrators stand underneath a trellised canopy. Girls and women clothed in light-colored dresses line either side of the banquet table at center. Men in suits take up the majority of the spaces at the two flanking tables. The tables themselves are decorated with plant leaves and what appear to be centerpieces depicting vases overflowing with fronds and grapes. An inverted sign in the background reads "Welcome [emocleW]". Picture file card reads "John D. Ripley, Fireman of the engine. Louise Martin--Garfield Study Group".
