View of Broadway looking south from 7th Street, the Bullock's Department Store is shown on the left. Other notable historic places depicted here include the Clifton's Cafeteria and the Orpheum Theatre. The intersection of Broadway and 7th Street used to be one of the busiest areas in Downtown Los Angeles. For many years, St. Vincent's College occupied the northwestern corner of the intersection in the 1860s. As the population grew in the late 19th century, several hotels were built to accommodate newcomers and tourists. In the beginning of the 20th century, the Broadway and 7th Street intersection became the center of commercial business.
