Description
Large panoramic photograph, showing Civil War veterans at an encampment of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic), at Huntington Beach, California. The reunion was held at the Methodist Campground, and was an annual event in Huntington Beach, starting in 1887. Veterans gather in front of the Methodist Auditorium, wearing G.A.R. parade badges. One veteran is also wearing a police badge (First row, front, far right) and another holds an American flag and a handwritten sign that reads "TENN," (second row, seated, 19th from left). Veterans also hold large parade banners and pennants representing states, including Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and New York. A tent bears a sign reading "W.C.T.U. PALM COTTAGE," which stands for Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
