Description
Immaculate Heart College was a private, Catholic college located on North Western Avenue in Los Angeles, California. The college offered various courses including art and religious education studies. The campus was owned and operated by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who had founded Immaculate Heart Convent and High School on their 13-acre property in 1905. Its leaders in the 1950s and 60s included Dr. Anita Marie Caspary and renowned artist Corita Kent who led a much publicized rebellion against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1969. The college closed in 1981 due to financial difficulties but the all-girl high school continues to operate on the original site.
