Description
Leader of the Nationalist Republican Alliance party, Roberto D'Aubuisson Arrieta, speaks at a press conference at his campaign headquarters in San Salvador on election day. He is wearing a bulletproof vest and is standing between two robust men, one of which is armed. The man standing on the left of the image is Victor Antonio Cornejo Arango, who later became his appointment secretary during his stint at President of the Assembly. Behind them is a flag that reads, "ARENA." He declared victory at 11:00pm. D'Aubuisson wears a bulletproof vest after he was grazed by a bullet. In 1993, a report published by the United Nations Commission on the Truth for El Salvador established that it was Roberto D'Aubuisson Arrieta who gave the order to assassinate Archbishop Óscar Arnulfo Romero in 1980.
El líder de la Alianza Republicana Nacionalista, Roberto D'Aubuisson Arrieta, pronuncia un discurso en una conferencia de prensa en la oficina central de su campaña en San Salvador el día de la elección. Viste un chaleco antibalas y está parado entre dos hombres robustos, uno de los cuales porta un arma. D'Aubuisson porta chaleco antibalas despúes de haber sido herido por una bala. En 1993, la Comisión de la Verdad para El Salvador estableció que fue Roberto D'Aubuisson Arrieta quien ordenó el asesinato del arzobispo Óscar Arnulfo Romero en 1980.
