Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated March 17, 1958 reads "Arrow shows spot at 3467 De la Cumbre Ave., kitchen where Elaine Allen, 17, student at Van Nuys High School, was sitting when landslide knocked down walls. She was talking to aunt on telephone and screamed when earth surrounded her. She managed to claw herself free of waist-high dirt and crawled out rear of house to safety. She was taken to Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries."
