Title transcribed from item. Signed on mount: "© Frederick Monsen." Monsen's typed label on back says: "Hopi Indians. Arizona. The Hopi Indians are divided into several Phratries, consisting of numerous clans, each of which preserves its distinct legends, ceremonies, and ceremonial paraphernalia. Out of these clan organizations have sprung religious fraternities, the headmen of which are still members of the dominant clan in each phratry. Photograph. Young Hopi matron of Mishongnovi."
