Description
Image of a family in a parlor with two old men playing with a baby before a fire in a fireplace while women set the dining room table for dinner, with a piano, grandfather clock, and hanging framed pictures on the wall in the background; fragment of a date sheet with show information for an October 27, [1882], performance at the Opera House, presumably in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; the poster advertises the domestic melodrama "Hearts of Oak" written by James A. Herne and David Belasco.
Probable date based on month and day on date sheet and corresponding advertisement: "Opera House, Friday, October 27, 1882. In the complete production of the beautiful, pure and interesting play. Hearts of Oak, By an unusually good company, headed by Mr. James A. Herne. ("Entertainments," Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, 27 October 1882, page 3) "W.J. Morgan & Co. Lith. Cleveland. O."--text, bottom right margin. "Opera House. / One Night Only, / Friday October 27 / Herne's Hearts of Oak"--text, date sheet attached to bottom of image.
