Description
Photograph of a derrick at the Kettleman Hills Oil Field, ca.1930. An oil derrick stands tall at center, with a few house-like structures around its base. One of these acts as a shelter for an automobile covered with a sheet in the leftmost corner. In the center of these structures, a small stair leads up to a wooden platform where a man stands in shadow, poised to climb the derrick. In the left background stands another derrick with more construction materials at its base. In the background run a line of utility poles. Photoprint reads: "Ketterman Hills oil wells, Standard Oil Co., ca. 1931. S.O. Co. No. 21-33 Z. Standard Oil Co. U.S. L. 21 Sec 33 T205 R17E".
